Elk River brothers Holton and Jory Lubinski have both reached the championship round of Section 7AAA wrestling which will be held Saturday afternoon.
Holton, a senior at 145 pounds, won three matches, including a pigtail, and Jory, a junior at 215, won two matches, on Friday evening at Cambridge-Isanti.
Holton, the No. 1 seed, will face Adam Kelly of Cambridge-Isanti. Jory, the No. 2 seed, will face Michael Burkhardt of Coon Rapids.
Both Lubinski’s are trying for their first state trip. The top two in each class advance, but in some cases the finals loser must wrestle a true-second match against the third-place finisher.
Eric Stevens, senior at 135 who went to state last year, was seeded No. 2 but lost in the second round to No. 3 Travis Holt of Cambridge-Isanti, 8-5. He’s hoping to come back for third place and get a true-second match, which occurs if the runner-up is a wrestler he hasn’t faced.
Also saddled with one loss but still alive in wrestlebacks are Austin Stevens, Jake Staffenhagen, Evan Caldon and Kyle Weimann.
Wrestlebacks start 11 a.m. Saturday. The championship round will start 2 p.m.
