Wrestling: Rogers, Zimmerman each win once before falling in 5AA
The Zimmerman and Rogers wrestling teams each won their first-round matches before losing in the second round Saturday in the Section 5AA tournament at Monticello.
No. 8 seeded Zimmerman beat No. 9 Benilde-St. Margaret’s 50-27 before losing to No. 1 Monticello 71-6. The Thunder finished their dual meet schedule 7-15.
No. 7 Rogers beat No. 10 Orono 45-27 before losing to No. 2 Fridley 54-19. The Royals finished dual meets 5-9.
Rogers wrestlers winning both matches were Kyle Tsteboe, Phillip Anderson, Conner Larson and Andrew List. Royals going 1-1 were Tim Beach, Stephan Paige, Kyler Swanson, Tyler Eicher, Mike Voorhees and Isiah Rizk.
The Section 5AA individuals tournament will be held next Saturday at Zimmerman.
Monticello cruised to the championship, beating Rockford 63-6 in the semifinals and Fridley 68-6 in the finals.
