Hockey: Elk girls face top-seeded Minnetonka at state

The Elk River girls hockey team didn’t have much luck in the draw for the state pairings on Saturday.

The Elks (20-8) were one of the four unseeded teams who are paired with four seeded teams in a random draw. The Elks drew the top-seeded team, Minnetonka (26-1-1) as a first-round opponent.

The unranked Elks and Skippers, also rated No. 1 by Let’s Play Hockey, will meet Thursday, 6 p.m., at the Xcel Energy Center.

The other pairings are No. 2 Edina (24-3-1) vs. Rosemount (22-5-1) at 11 a.m., No. 3 Lakeville South (24-2-2) vs. Hill-Murray (21-7) at 1 p.m., and No. 4 Coon Rapids (23-5) vs. North Wright County (22-5-1) at 8 p.m.

The Elks won the Section 7AA title with a 4-1 win over Grand Rapids-Greenway in the finals Wednesday.
