Wrestling: Elks ousted by Forest Lake at sectional

The Elk River wrestlers lost to Forest Lake 43-27 in the first round of Section 7AAA on Friday in Blaine.

Winning for the Elks were Jake Staffenhagen, Eric Stevens and Jory Lubinski by pins, and  Holton Lubinski, Abe Williams and Kyle Wiemann by decision. Williams went overtime.

Six Elks got pinned, including sophomore Adam Peterson in his varsity debut against a reigning state champion, Ben Morgan, at 130 pounds.  Peterson subbed for Austin Halleron, who has a hand injury.

Also pinned were Yong Yee Vang, Ryan Osberg, John Reitter, Corey Collins and Mitch Beaudry. Losing decisions were Zang Vang (major) and Evan Caldon.

The Elks finished 9-6 in dual meets, and now look ahead to section individuals next Friday and Saturday in Cambridge.

St. Michael-Albertville was the champion. The Knights thumped Forest Lake 50-12 in the semifinals and Cambridge-Isanti 34-16 in the finals.
