RVPT, local prep drumline, wins first two outings

The River Valley Percussion Theatre drumline, with students from Elk River, Rogers and Zimmerman, placed won two shows last weekend to open its 2011 season.

The RVPT won shows in Hutchinson and Dassel-Cokato, and received the People’s Choice award as well at D-C.

The RVPT, directed by David Biegler and Craig Myers, has 31 members with marching percussion (snare, bass, and tenor drums, and cymbals), concert/auxiliary percussion (marimba, xylophone, vibes, aux..), and some electronics.

“The show is built around a particular theme and idea,” said Biegler, “so these groups arrange and compose music that relates as well as adding movement and drill to help with the visual aspect.”

Six events remain.

“We encourage everyone to come and support your local drumline,” said Biegler,  “and to experience percussion in a whole new style!”
