Basketball: Sizen’s 20 lifts Elks over Park Center 60-54

Annie Sizen sniped for 20 points as the Elk River Elks turned back Park Center 60-54 at home on Thursday evening.

Sizen, senior guard, made six of 11 from 3-point range, and got her 20th point with a rare driving layup. She has 79 three-pointers on the season.

When the Pirates pulled within 40-39, Sizen sank three straight 3-pointers from the wing.

Senior post Victoria Jenson hit 10 points and senior guard Kayti Hanson added nine, all at the stripe as she went 9-for-10. The Elks were 16-for-22 on free shots.

Cayla McMorris scored 18 points and Megan VanHulzen 12 for the Pirates, who are just 3-15 in conference and 8-14 overall but have given the Elks two tough games. The Elks won the first one 61-60.

The Elks, hoping to finish fourth in the 11-team conference, are tied for fourth at 10-8 with Blaine, and are 14-10 overall. Left on the schedule are Andover there Tuesday and Maple Grove at home Friday.
