Hockey: Royals trip MAML 3-1, stay unbeaten in conference

The Rogers Royals are one game from an unbeaten conference season after two power-play goals and one shorthanded added up  to a 3-1 victory over Monticello-Annandale-Maple Lake at  home Saturday.

MAML’s Dylan Nelson had the lone first-period goal on a power play, but it was all Royals after that as they outshot the visitors 34-22.

Neal Smith’s power play goal at 10:28 of the second period, assisted by Chad Miller and Jake Einarson, tied the score.

Parker Veith gave Rogers a 2-1 lead at 9:27 of the third, scoring on a power play with assists from Nick Polsfuss and Andrew Smith. Rogers was 2-for-4 on power plays.

Polsfuss scored the shorthanded goal at 15:53 for a two-goal lead.

Rogers goalie Robbie Vukelich stopped 21 of 22 shots. MAML goalie Aaron Boros stopped 31 of 34.

Rogers is 10-0 in the Mississippi 8 and second-place MAML is 7-3-1.

The Royals (15-7-1 overall) have two regular-season games left, against Rochester Lourdes on Tuesday ant St. Michael-Albertville on Thursday, both at home.
