Dance: Rogers headed back to state in jazz and kick

The Rogers Dance Team will make its second straight trip to the state meet after placing second in both high kick and jazz at the Section 2AA meet Saturday in North Branch.

Totino-Grace was champion in both. Qualifying by placing third were Hill-Murray in jazz and Fridley in high kick.

Other competing teams were North Branch, Zimmerman, Park Center, Chisago Lakes, Becker, Cloquet and Monticello.

The RDT has placed either first or second at all of their Invitationals, conference meets and now sectionals this season.

The 28-member team is coached by Megan David and assistants Meg Johnson, Jessica Grover and Ashley Hermann. Senior captains are Natalie Gannon and Laura Donley.

“This year has been a whirl wind of experiences and Saturday was the best to date,” said Gannon. “This team has pushed itself harder and achieved more than I’d ever thought possible.  It would be hard to find a group of more dedicated and self disciplined girls than we have here.  We have worked our butts off this season and we are so thankful to be returning to state.”

The RDT’s state schedule at the Target Center will be jazz Friday and high-kick Saturday. They are slated to dance 3:05 p.m.
Friday and 3:55 p.m. Saturday in Class AA.

The dancers are Rogers’ third state team this year following football (runners-up) and girls soccer (champions).
