Basketball: Rogers drubs Zimmerman 82-58

There was no need for overtime in the Rogers vs. Zimmerman rematch Tuesday evening, as the Royals overwhelmed the Thunder in the second half and won 82-58.

The first meeting of the two teams was won in overtime by Rogers 70-64 on Jan. 4 in Zimmerman. This time, the host Royals led 39-30 at the half, and dominated the much smaller Thunder 43-28 in the second half.

Leading Rogers were 6-6 forward Rory Donovan with 21 points, 6-9 center Michael Schreiber with 19 points, 6-4 forward Trevor Morlock with 12 points, and 6-2 guard RJ Dean with 11 points.

Brandon Giese sank 16 points for Zimmerman, with Nate Christensen adding 11 and Blake Ehley 10.

Rogers improved to 7-3 in the Mississippi 8 and 12-6 overall. Zimmerman dropped to 4-6 in conference and 13-7 overall.

Zimmerman will host Becker in a girl-boy doubleheader on Friday evening. Rogers will play at first-place Buffalo on Friday evening.
