Gymnastics: Hoover, Elks win Breck Invitational to close regular season

Led by Sabrina Hoover with a season-best score, the Elk gymnasts closed the regular season with a victory at the Breck Invitational on Saturday.

Two-time state all-around champion Hoover scored 37.95 and won three of the four events in her last meet as an Elk. She will finish her prep career competing for Rogers in post-season as she has the last two years.

The Elk River-Zimmerman-Roger co-op scored 139.225 points. Following were Pine Island 136.9, Apple Valley 134.375, Maple Grove 133.825, Breck 132.975, Austin 132.95, Edina 129.125, Simley 121.375, and  Princeton 114.575.

Hoover dominated the meet as the next-best all-around scores were 34.50 by an Apple Valley girl and  35.25 by an Edina girl.

Leah Perrault of the Elks placed fourth with 35.25 and Alyssa Walton was 14th with 33.05.

Hoover won vault with 9.45. Perrault was 10th with 8.875 and Walton 18th with 8.575.

Hoover won bars with 9.50. Perrault was seventh with 8.20 and Walton 14th with 7.725.

Hoover took balance beam with 9.55. Perrault was second with 9.50 and Courtney Bursch 12th with 8.375.

On floor ex, Hoover was third with 9.45, Walton ninth with 9.05 and Perrault 10th with 9.025.

The team will now split for sectionals. The Rogers girls will compete in 5A on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Park Center, at 5 p.m. The Elk River-Zimmerman girls will host 7AA on Friday, Feb. 18, at 5 p.m.
