Speaker helped liberate several camps in WWII
Rep. Bernie Lieder will talk about the “Battle of the Bulge and Beyond” as part of the World War II History Series in Elk River.
The event runs from 6:30–8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8 at the Handke Center, 1170 Main St., Elk River.

Lieder was in the U.S. Army’s 102nd Infantry Division. He survived the Battle of the Bulge, helped to liberate several Nazi concentration camps, and was an interpreter helping survivors.
As a state representative, Lieder was the final World War II soldier to serve in the state Capitol and played a key role in securing the World War II Memorial.
