Hockey: Rogers boys down Bison 4-1, near M8 crown

The Rogers Royals neared their second straight Mississippi 8 title with a 4-1 victory over the Buffalo Bison on Thursday evening in Buffalo.

Nick Polsfuss and Neal Smith each notched a goal and an assist for the Royals.

Andrew Smith and Zach Hnath (power play) had the other goals. Bryan Jungels made two assists and Chad Miller and Matt Weber one each.

Royal goalie Robby Vukelich stopped 17 of 18 shots. Aaron Rouse had the Buffalo goal in the first period.

Rogers (12-6-1 overall) is 8-0-0 in conference, leading by 2 1/2 games with three conference games left. Monticello-Annandale-Maple Lake is next at 5-2-1.

The Royals earned a season sweep of the Bison, who have been their main rival in the Mississippi 8 through they years but are struggling this year at 3-4-2 in conference and 3-14-2 overall.

Rogers will host Proctor on Saturday at 3 p.m.
