Hockey: Anoka late surge beats Elk girls 3-2

The Anoka Tornadoes nipped Elk River 3-2 for the second time this season, scoring the final two goals, on Tuesday evening at Elk River Arena.

The Elks twice had a one-goal lead, on goals by Chelsey Petrich in the first period (assists by Emily Heid and Meagan Orrock) and by Cassi Schreckenghaust in the third period (Josie Brown).

Anoka’s Emily Brigham tied the score with her second goal of the game, at 9:38 of the third period, and Sarah Wells gave the Tornadoes the lead on a power play at the 10:36 mark.

Shots were even at 28. Samantha Geissler made 25 saves for the Elks, and Samantha Ubl had 26 for the Tornadoes.

The Elks, who lost to Anoka by the same score earlier, are 10-6 in the NWSC and 16-7 overall.

Second-place Anoka is 12-3-1 in the NWSC and 16-4-3 overall. Coon Rapids leads the league at 13-3.

The Elks will host Blaine on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
