Hockey: Royal boys thump Bluejackets 6-1, lead by 2 1/2
Six Rogers players had a goal each as the first-place Royals defeated Cambridge-Isanti 6-1 at Cambridge on Saturday.
After a scoreless first period, Neal Smith scored 1:52 into the second period, and Bryan JunglesĀ scored a shorthanded goal at 5:52.
Chad Miller, Andrew Smith, Mark Baumtrog and Parker Veith all connected in the third period for 6-0 lead. Josh Klingseisen got the Bluejackets on the board with 59 seconds left.
Rogers killed 10 Cambridge-Isanti power plays while going 0-for-7 themselves. The Royals had only a 35-31 edge in shots.
Keaton Mumm made 30 saves for the Royals. In goal for C-I was Billie Winselman.
The Royals (11-6-1 overall) are 7-0 in the Mississippi 8 with a 2 1/2 game lead. Monticello-Annandale-Maple Lake is 4-2-1 and Cambridge-Isanti 3-3-1.
Rogers will play at Buffalo on Thursday evening.
