Swimming: Elks beat Blaine, finish 5-0 in west division

The Elk swimmers wrapped up the conference west division title with a 102-79 conquest of Blaine at home on Thursday evening.

The Elk River-Zimmerman-Rogers-Spectrum co-op has a 5-0 record in the Northwest Suburban, and 6-0 overall. The Elks have earned a berth in the NWSC overall title match against perennial champion Maple Grove, the east leader, there Tuesday evening.

Coach Denise Eidem mixed things up so many swimmers were not in their normal races.

Aaron Schwab set personal bests in winning the 50 and 100 freestyles and Collin Krueger had a PB in winning the backstroke. That was Krueger’s lone race of the meet as he’s dealing with walking pneumonia, said Eidem.

Next for the Elks will be the Cambridge-Isanti Invitational on Saturday.
