The Zimmerman wrestlers won one of three matches in a quad at Ogilvie on Thursday evening, with highlights being three youngsters getting their first wins.
Zimmerman (6-10) lost to Mora 44-21, defeated Ogilvie 50-30, and lost to Kimball 55-8. Kimball is ranked No. 4 in Class 1A.
Zach Stepan (23-1) won twice at 125 but absorbed his first loss of the season, 8-6 to Kimball’s Marcus Hamer.
Mitch Robinson (22-2) also took a rare loss while winning twice at 189. Hunter Smith was 2-1 at 119.
“We had some young kids do really well tonight,” said coach Ponch Hartman.
Freshman Justin Victora at 112 won two of three, his first varsity wins. Freshman Kale Cowles at 130 and seventh-grader Chase Rostby at 112 each notched his first varsity win while losing twice. Eighth-grader Austin May, who had his first varsity win in the Thunder Invitational on Saturday, added two more as he went 2-1 at 130.
Next for Zimmerman is the Elk River Invitational on Saturday, 9 a.m.
