Wrestling: Elks trip Champlin Park 50-21

The Elk River wrestlers cruised 50-21 over Champlin Park there on Thursday evening.

Notching pins for the Elks (4-1) were Zang Vang at 103, Yong Yee Vang at 112,  Eric Stevens at 140, Austin Stevens at 152, and Abe Williams at 171.

Eric Caldon had a tech fall at 119. Posing major decisions were Jake Staffenhagen at 125, Austin Stevens at 130, and Jory Lubinski at 215. Corey Collins won a decision at 160.

Holton Lubinski, a senior who’s 15-2 and ranked No. 2 in Class 3A at 145 pounds, missed his first match since being suspended for 21 days or six events for an MSHSL rules violation. Coach Paul Nelson said Lubinski would be back for the regular-season finale and sectionals.

The Elks will host the Elk River Invitational on Saturday beginning 9 a.m.
