Waterfront home ordinance passes

Hassan Town Board members passed an ordinance at the Jan. 3 town board meeting that will make it possible for future developers and prospective home owners to build a house facing Hassan lakes rather than the street.

It would allow garages to sit back from a house which means the garage, instead of the house, would be situated closer to the street.

Town administrator Bill Craig says though this building arrangement is popular in other communities, Hassan does not have any homes built that way, or expects any such request in the near future.

Should someone want to build a lake home facing water instead of the street, they would need to obtain a conditional use permit (CUP) from the town.

Craig says each situation and building site would require individual setbacks and conditions on the CUP which could include things such as landscaping.
Hassan lakes include Sylvan, Henry and Meadow.
