Margaret and Rudy Thibodeau plan to close Godfather’s Pizza Restaurant in Zimmerman after tomorrow (Jan. 23).
The restaurant is located at 13100 Fremont Ave. in Zimmerman.
“The continuing worldwide economic crises, the foreclosure by the bank and our inability to profitably operate the restaurant leaves us with no other options,” said Rudy Thibodeau.
Thibodeau attributes unemployment, fuel prices and the mortgage crisis to the demise of the business.
“Every week in the paper we see the names of more customers losing their homes to foreclosure.” Thibodeau said.
The Thibodeaus opened the restaurant in 2005 when the Zimmerman community was enjoying rapid growth and expansion.
“It was a pleasure working with the city and receiving the wonderful welcome from the community,” Thibodeau said. “I believe that the rapid rise in fuel prices set in motion the economic hardships that have affected the entire corridor from Rogers to Princeton.”
Thibodeau said he is proud that despite the difficult economic conditions, the Zimmerman Godfather’s Pizza maintained its integrity by continuing to provide a high quality product.
The business did not cut portions, use fillers or artificial ingredients, Thibodeau said. “We did our best for our customers, employees and the community,” he said.
The Otsego Godfather’s Pizza Restaurant will remain open.
The Thibodeaus will be adjusting their Otsego delivery area to pick up a portion of the old Zimmerman delivery area.
“Hopefully our nation’s leaders will find a way to regain the confidence of consumers, get our economy growing and the jobs that are so badly needed in our communities,” Thibodeau said.
