by Bruce Strand, Sports editor

With past and future Elks cheering them on, the Elk River wrestlers drubbed Andover 60-12 at home on Friday evening to stay unbeaten.

The victory boosted the Elks to 4-0 in the Northwest Suburban, setting a crucial duel with Coon Rapids on Saturday, 12:30 p.m., in Coon Rapids. The Cardinals are also unbeaten in conference.

It was both Youth Night and Alumni Night for the Elks, both both groups introduced and applauded.

Earning pins for the Elks were Jake Staffenhagen, Holton Lubinski, Austin Stevens, and Mitch Beaudry. Austin Halloran won by technical fall. Chalking up major decisions were Zang Vang, Yong Vee Vang, Evan Caldon, and Eric Stevens.

Eric Stevens supplied the highlight with a 12-2 victory over Sam Stewart at 140 pounds. Stewart placed fourth at state at 125 last year and had beaten Stevens 8-2 in the North Dakota State tournament. Stevens chalked up takedown points repeatedly by counting Stewart’s single-leg takedown attempts.

The Elks forfeited at 135 and received forfeits at 171, 215 and 285.
