Basketball: Royal boys in OT again, lose to Big Lake 77-76
The Rogers Royals have been working a lot of overtime lately without as much to show for it as they’d like.
The Big Lake Hornets edged the Royals 77-76 in double OT on Friday evening in Big Lake, led by Tyler Otto with 20 points.
Rogers has played six overtimes in the past three games, all Mississippi 8 contests. They beat Zimmerman 70-64 in one OT, then lost to Buffalo 57-51 in three OT’s before falling to Big Lake.
Big Lake is 3-1 in conference and 7-4 overall. Rogers drops to 2-2 and 7-4.
Trevor Berkley pulled Rogers into a 61-61 tie at the buzzer in regulation with a tip-in basket.
The Royals had a 4-point lead in the first OT. Big Lake caught up, and Rogers had the ball last but couldn’t score.
In the second extra 4-minute session, Austin Poe hit a 3-pointer for Big Lake, and the Hornets led 77-73 after making two of four free shots. R.J. Dean sank a 3-pointer for Rogers at the buzzer.
Trevor Morlock netted 18 points, Rory Donovan 16, Austin Barbeln 12 and Dean 11 for Rogers.
The Royals will host Monticello on Tuesday evening.
