Sgt. Ron Nierenhausen has been promoted to patrol captain in the Elk River Police Department.
The promotion was recommended by Police Chief Brad Rolfe and approved by the Elk River City Council on Monday, Jan. 10.
“He is supremely qualified for the position,” Rolfe told the City Council. “He will step in, hit the deck running and we need him badly.”
Rolfe had been the department’s patrol captain until being promoted to police chief last month with the retirement of former Chief Jeff Beahen.
The patrol captain supervises the police department’s patrol division consisting of four sergeants and 17 patrol officers.
Nierenhausen is a 22-year veteran of the Elk River Police Department. He was hired as a police officer in 1988 and promoted to sergeant in 1996.
He is a U.S. Army Reserve veteran.
He has a bachelor’s degree from St. Cloud State University, a master’s degree from Concordia University and is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police and Command.
Nierenhausen has received numerous departmental awards and commendations.
