Gymnastics: Elks beat Osseo, are 4-0 in conference
The Elk River-Zimmerman-Rogers gymnasts posted their 22nd straight conference dual meet victory, over Osseo 134.575 to 120.60, in Osseo on Wednesday evening.
The Elks (4-0 in the NWSC this year) were led by senior Sabrina Hoover, all-around winner with 36.90, and eighth-grader Alyssa Walton, who placed third with 33.575.
Hoover won bars, beam and floor while Alana Embury won vault.
Coach Jenn Bartlett’s comments on each event:
Vault: “Nice vaults by all. We are working on sticking he vault and execution in the beginning part of their vaults.”
Bars: “We are working on execution and amplitude of elements. We need to clean up our giant swings and continue to push for flow in our skills.”
Beam: “Working on connections of skills, no wobbles and no falls.”
Floor: “We need to fine tune the execution on our dance elements and be more consistent in our tumbling passes.”
Next for the Elks is the Princeton Invitational — hometown of both Bartlett and assistant Joleen Winkleman, former Princeton coach. Both have received state coach of the year honors, back-to-back.
