A power play slap shot by Emily Heid got Elk River started and the Elks went on to defeat Champlin Park 5-0 at home on Tuesday evening.
The Elks had a 15-1 shot advantage but no goals before Heid, a freshman forward, fired her first varsity goal at 15:35 in the first period, Jordan McLaughlin assisting.
Jonna Curtis took over in the second period, nailing two unassisted goals and assisting Cassey Petrich on a power play goal.
Cassi Schreckenghaust hit a power play goal in the third period assisted by Madison Ellis. The Elks were 3-for-6 on the power play.
Samantha Geissler stopped 20 shots as the Elks notched their xxx shutout of the season.
Curtis has 20 goals and Scheckenghaust is next with 11 for the Elks. Plus-minus leaders are Danielle Esperum (17), Curtis (16) and McLaughlin (12).
Ashley Christensen of the Rebels (3-14-1) faced 43 shots, stopping 38.
The Elks, 6-4 in the NWSC and 11-5 overall, will host Grand Rapids on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
