Basketball: Giese scores 1,000th as Thunder boys whip Becker

Brandon Giese notched his 1,000th career point in leading Zimmerman to a 71-50 win over the Becker Bulldogs on Tuesday evening in Becker.

Giese tallied 15 points, including a 3-point shot from the corner midway through the second half that put him at 1,000.

The 6-1 senior guard, who’s averaging 17.5 points, needed 13 to become the second ZHS boy in the 1,000-point club, following Zach Mettling.

Blake Ehley added 11 points and Gavin Doppler and Jake Wilson 10 each as the Thunder picked up their first Mississippi 8 win. They are 1-2 in conference and 8-3 overall.

Dustin Wander hit 12 points, Isaac Smith 11 and Jeremy Welle 10 for Becker (2-7). The Bulldogs leading scorer, 6-6 center Damian Reinke, was held to 7 points.

Next for Zimmerman is conference leader Buffalo next Tuesday at home.
