Basketball: Buffalo snags Royal boys in 3 OTs 57-51

Unable to hit the shot that would put the game away, the Rogers Royals lost a duel for first place to the Buffalo Bison in triple overtime 57-51 at home Tuesday evening.
Andy Ortmann scored 17 points for Buffalo, including a last-second 3-point shot in the second overtime to knot the score, and eight points in the third extra session.
Rogers had the ball last but was unable to score in both regulation which ended 39-39 and the first overtime which ended 42-42.
In the second OT, the Royals were up 46-43 but missed two free shots on one-and-one’s, leaving an opening for the Bison, who capitalized as Ortmann hit a back-pedaling 3-pointer from the top of the key to tie it again 46-46.
Ortmann, 5-11 senior guard, hit a jump shot and 6-of-6 free throws in the third OT.
Michael Schreiber, 6-9 junior center, scored 18 points for Rogers, and Rory Donovan, 6-6 senior forward, added 14 points.
Buffalo is 3-0 in the Mississippi 8 and 6-3 overall. Rogers drops to 2-1 in conference and 7-3 overall. The other team unbeaten in conference is St. Michael-Albertville at 2-0.
Rogers will play at Big Lake on Friday evening.
