Wrestling: Elks 3rd at Cambridge; Lubinski, Stevens win titles
Holton Lubinski beat two ranked wrestlers to capture an individual championship while Elk River placed third in the Cambridge-Isanti Invitational on Saturday.
Austin Stevens also won a title and three Elks were runners-up.
Cambridge-Isanti and Prior Lake finished 1-2 ahead of the Elks in the eight-school field.
Lubinski, senior 145-pounder ranked No. 7 by The Guillotine, was 3-0 for the day, beating No. 4 ranked Mack Glasby of Brainerd 4-1 in the semifinals, and No. 2 ranked Tanner Carlisle of PriorLake 12-5 in the finals.
Austin Stevens, ranked 10th at 160, took the 152-pound crown with three wins. He beat a Sibley wrestler in overtime in the finals.
Evan Caldon was runner-up at 112 pounds. He was was leading 5-0 in the finals when he got pinned by a Sibley wrestler.
Jory Lubinski placed second at 215 pounds, losing 3-0 to a Grand Rapids state entrant in the finals, and Kyle Wiemann was runner-up at 285 pounds, losing 7-6 in the finals to a Sibley wrestler.
Jake Staffenhagen at 119, Eric Stevens at 140 and Abe Williams at 171 all placed third. Zang Vang at 1 03 placed fourth, and Corey Collins at 160 placed fifth.
The Elks had no entrant at 125, 135 and 189.
The Elks will host Andover on Friday evening — it will be both Youth Night and Alumni Night — and will duel Coon Rapids there Saturday in a match likely to decide the conference championship.
