Hockey: Elk girls trip Centennial 3-2
Eighth-grader Jordan McLaughlin scored the go-ahead goal as the Elk River Elks edged Centennial 2-1 in Circle Pines on Saturday evening.
McLaughlin scored her fifth goal of the season with 3:31 left, assisted by Jonna Curtis, to break a 1-1 tie.
The first Elk goal was scored by Sarah Thedens, also assisted by Curtis, at 2:05 of the second period. Centennial’s Lauren Anderson tied the score at 5:40 of the second period.
Elk goalie Tori Hermann stopped 18 of 19 shots. Centennial’s Erika Hansen stopped 19 of 21.
The Elks have beaten Centennial twice (also by 2-0 on Nov. 20) even though the Cougars are ahead of them in the standings.
In the NWSC, Coon Rapids and Anoka are each 7-2, Centennial 6-3, Andover and Blaine each 6-4, the Elks 5-4, Maple Grove 4-5, North Metro Stars 3-5, Armstrong 2-8 and Champlin Park 0-9.
The Elks (10-5) will host Champlin Park on Tuesday evening.
