Joel Alex Lutz, 59, of Chicago, formerly of Minneapolis and Zimmerman, died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010.
Mr. Lutz was born on the family farm in Elk River on Jan. 31, 1951. He graduated from Elk River High School and attended college at St. Cloud State University.
He was a food service manager at Sanford Hall at the University of Minnesota for 25 years.
When he was 50 years old he was hired by Amtrak as a car attendant on the Empire Builder line. He was passionate about his work and was happiest when he was “on the tracks,” according to his family. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and liked to get together during any social occasion.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 6 at Dare’s Funeral Home in Elk River. Interment was at Bellwood Cemetery, Zimmerman.
Memorials are preferred.
He is survived by his father, Alex; siblings, Dianne Lutz, Linda Friberg, Jeffrey (Barb), Micheal (Sylvia), Mary (Terry) Elliott, Danny (Mary), and Donneen Fisher; 16 nephews and nieces; 12 great-nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Lutz was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce (nee Iliff).
