Hockey: Orono tips Rogers girls with 2 late goals 3-1

The Orono Spartans struck for two goals 23 seconds apart in the third period to hand the Rogers Royals a 3-1 loss on Thursday evening in Orono.

Emily Antony scored for Rogers (6-8-1) in the first period, assisted by Leah Benson. Emily Knight connected for Orono (12-2-1) in the same period.

The 1-1 tie stood until Madison Martini notched a goal for Orono at 13:00 of the third period and Rebekah Smith added another at 13:23.

Orono goalie Casey Hartfiel stopped 36 of 37 shots. Rogers’ Becca Leshvosky stopped 30 of 33.

The Royals will host Sartell-St. Stephen on Saturday at 3 p.m.
