Basketball: STMA scuttles Thunder boys 67-52

The Zimmerman Thunder cruised into conference play with a 7-1 record but fell to St. Michael-Albertville 67-52 in their Mississippi 8 opener Tuesday evening.

Michael Mooney hit 15 points, Michael Wiese 14, Dan Krutzig 11 and Joe Carpenter 10 for the Knights (5-4), who showed slick ball movement and accurate shooting (22-for-41). Carpenter snagged 11 rebounds and Wiese 9.

Brandon Giese netted 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals for Zimmerman. Blake Ehley added 11 points and Gavin Doppler 10.  Caleb Lunning had 6 points, 4 assists and  6 rebounds.

The Thunder struggled with their shooting as they sank only three 3-pointers and missed several close-range shots on penetrations, too.

Zimmerman will host Rogers on Friday evening.
