Basketball: Rogers girls stymie Becker 43-27
The Rogers Royals prevailed 43-27 over Becker in a defensive duel that’s typical whenever these Mississippi 8 rivals meet Tuesday evening.
The score was just 4-3 near the 10-minute mark of the first half, and after Rogers found the bottom of then et for a 20-9 halftime lead, both teams went scoreless the firs five minutes of the second half.
Sophomore forward Courtney McClay, with 12 points for Rogers, was the lone double-figure scorer in the game.
“Our girls did a nice job overall tonight, especially in the first half in keeping them from getting into sync on offense,” said coach Jeremy Digiovanni. “We also did a good job taking care of the ball with only two turnovers in the first half. While we weren’t making a lot of shots, we weren’t giving the ball away freely.”
The Royals, 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference, will host Zimmerman on Friday night.
