Three Elk River Area School Board members sworn in Monday night

Two of the newest members of the Elk River Area School Board and one incumbent were sworn in to four-year terms Monday (Jan. 3) at the School District 728 Office in Elk River.

A fourth person, Jane Bunting, of Rogers, was out of town and will be sworn in at a later date.
Tony Walter, a transportation manager for Vision Transportation; Shane Steinbrecher, the owner of Steinbrecher Companies, Inc.; and incumbent Jolene Jorgensen, a project manager for Anoka County; took the oath of office simultaneously with the help of Superintendent Mark Bezek.

Incumbent Jolene Jorgensen and newly elected Tony Walter and Shane Steinbrecher were sworn in by Supertintendent Mark Bezek on Monday night.Walter, of Elk River, was perhaps the most surprising winner in this past fall’s School Board races. He had dropped out of the race early on, but too late to have his name removed from the ballot. He decided after garnering more than 7,000 votes to accept the position, though.

He and Jorgensen, of Otsego, were elected to at-large positions on the School Board. Jorgensen is now in her second term on the School Board.

Steinbrecher, who has co-chaired the citizen-led Legislative Action Team, won the Election District No. 1 seat.

Bunting, an owner of the Wayzata Bay Spice Co., was reportedly away on a previously scheduled trip at the time of the organizational meeting.
