On April 11 at 3:11 p.m. Elk River police and fire departments responded to a home on the 12000 block of Highland Road after a 12-year-old started a fire.

Cunningham said when fire fighters responded to the scene they were able to quickly extinguish the fire, however, the did have to cut one large tree down that was near the fire to make sure it was fully extinguished.
It was once the homeowner returned that she learned her 12-year-old son had accidently started the fire by playing with a lighter and aerosol can in the back yard.
“This is an extremely dangerous trick and thankfully no one was injured,” Cunningham said.
